Yesterday would have been my grandmother’s 100th birthday. She died just over 4 years ago, months short of her 96th birthday. She was a huge influence on my life and someone I treasured dearly. I am lucky that I got to call my Grandma my friend.
This birthday coupled with the class I taught yesterday in the Priestess Path that focused on the Maiden Mother and Crone, has had me reflecting on the energy of the Crone. As we sit here on the cusp of Summer there is much focus on that Maiden and Mother energy. That playful, and free force coupled with the growth and creativity of the Mother. Yet we often forget that Crone energy resides here too. The natural world around us is full of life and death at any given moment. It is so valuable during these times of energy influx to also remember to sloooow down. To watch and listen and feel into the experience of the now, instead of just getting swept away in the forward momentum. There is a sweetness in the thread of life. The knowledge that this is particular incarnation is finite. I can hear my grandmother’s voice telling me again and again to slow down, to stop being so busy. To just sit down while talking to her on the phone instead of multitasking. The older I get the more value I feel in these reminders. I’m not always good at going slow, but I am much more appreciative of the moments that I do it. The Crone also invites us to speak our truth. My Grandma was someone who often spoke her mind (sometimes quite unfiltered), and there is value in this too. There is power in knowing your truth and unapologetically speaking it and living it. Curious about how to work with this Crone energy? Here are a couple of simple practices. Ask yourself, who has held this Crone energy in your life. Who are the Elder women you have had relationships with? Consider their attributes. Consider your relationships with them. Now ponder the way the Crone lives in you. No matter how old you are, this energy lives inside of you. What is your relationship to it? The more we recognize and honor all the parts of ourselves, the more connected we become to Self and to Source. The more we see these parts in others and can identify the webs of energy that run through us all. NEW CLASS! Many of you know that I have been practicing magic in a Circle, a Coven, for the last 18 years. When I first started in this “Goddess Study Group” I thought we would just meet once a week and follow the discussions and exercises the chosen book offered. Although this was the first incarnation of this Circle, it wasn’t long before we began making magic more organically. During our time together we have been as small as three and as large a group as 10. There have been weddings, divorces, babies being birthed, degrees earned, certifications received, and careers changed. The circle has held magic, ritual, divination and spells, but it has also been a container for connection, community and support during these many transitions. These 18 years have been an adventure and many things have been learned along the way, both about myself and about the nature of groups. I have also discovered the many pieces of Coven crafting, considerations and mechanics that I didn’t know were necessary for the creation and ongoing health of a group. Now I want to share them with you! I am often asked about how one finds a Coven. I have created a class called Coven Craft, that invites you to make your own! During our two hours together we will explore: The visioning process of creating a Coven Considerations around the frequency and style of your group Leaderships styles Where to find your Coven mates The nuts and bolts of things like location, dues, structure Prompts for reflection and planning and so much more! This class will be held via Zoom on June 25th from 9-11 am PT. The replay will be available for those that are unable to attend live. Early Bird pricing of 20% when you register before June 11th. (Diving Deeper members be sure to get your special code in the group site.) Community Magic Making One of my favorite things is community ritual. I love the melding of energies, the shared experience, the vibration that occurs when we come together with a shared intention. Have you ever been in a community ritual? Shared ceremony in a group setting? Each turn of the Wheel, I offer rituals to celebrate together in my Diving Deeper Circle. If you’re curious about these rituals, I have an opportunity for you to join us for the Summer Solstice. When you purchase the Summer Solstice Celebration guidebook, not only do you get 40+ pages of reflections on the season, information about the Solstice itself, divination and ritual suggestions, recipes and more, but you also get access to the Summer Solstice ritual. This ritual is a collaboration with Erin laFaive of Full Circle herbals. See you in the Circle.

Things are certainly heating up around here.
The temperatures are climbing the days continue to lengthen while the promises of Summer are everywhere. In the growth of the garden (and the growth of the weeds), in the bright evenings and early sunrises and in the vibration of energy that leaks into everything this time of year; the anticipation of outdoor fun, kids excited for time off school and the general bursts of energy and desire to move out into the world that often accompany this sun soaked time of year. This energy of the growing days and the strengthening sun, is perfect for harnessing and making manifest. We planted in early Spring and now we grow. What are you calling in? What fires within and without might benefit from some stoking. This is a great time to craft up a spell or two. Spells are a way to amplify an intention and direct our energy. They can be simple or more intricate. Simple Practice If you have never crafted a spell before, a great way to start is with a little word witchery. *Begin by setting an intention. *Then take some time to journal about this intention. *You might ask yourself yourself “Why do I want this?” “How will what I am calling in, influence or shift my life?” “What actions can I take to help move this intention into being in ordinary reality?” *With the information you gain from this journaling, create a chant or poem that speaks to your intention and what you are calling in. Not feeling poetic? That's ok. Prose works just as well. The power is in the intention and the words. *Now use the energy of the noon day sun to charge your words by speaking them beneath that golden orb. Feel the heat and energy of the Sun as you do this. You might do this several times in one sitting, or multiple days in a row. *When you feel complete you can release your words by burning them in a flame or tying them to a tree limb beneath the sun.
